May 2009 News

Apologies. I was hoping to have new material posted in the month of April, but I find it's often hard to meet my own self-imposed deadlines. Creating fresh work, whether a story or song, is not a process I can rush. I'll never compromise and put forth weak effort just for the sake of having something to post.

For the month of May, I present 5 new songs. In the ‘Songs, Poems & Musings' link, please find “ Faded ,” “ Maybe the Next Stop ,” “ West Coast Masquerade, ” “ What If Scenario, and the very bluesy I Just Want .” As always, I encourage thoughts and feedback left on my message board.

February 2009 News

The month of February has brought me to my knees.

On February 3, my beloved dog AJ passed away after blessing my life for nearly fifteen years. There are just no words to express my loss. My only solace is knowing that she plays with my dad now until I'm reunited with my girl again…

New material on its way for March!

January 2009 News

First and foremost, I wish all a happy and healthy 2009!

It's going to be a very busy year for me – I hope to champion the cause for the fight against pancreatic cancer! A daunting task, to say the least, but wars are won only by each battle. In this case, it's getting hold of a copy of Dusk and Summer and getting to one of the many events I'm currently planning, not only for 2009, but beyond as well.

**********

Word of mouth and reviews… it's all I ask from my readers. Please, get online to your respective booksellers of Dusk and Summer and write a short review for my book. Scream at your local bookstores if they don't have it on their shelves. And shake your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers silly until they get a copy!

The first fundraising/book signing/memorial event in the works will be held at Goodfella's Restaurant in Garfield, New Jersey. I'm not about to give away any details as of yet, other than to say it will be held on a Sunday sometime either March or April 2009.

Another event will be held at Piano's Bar & Grill in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Again, no details or dates as of yet. But that's just the start, and I'll be sure to keep you all posted!

Last but not least, new releases for my website! In my poems link please find, “ Walls .”
New pics of my little girl Athena and her daddy in the gallery section.

And finally… well, almost finally, my intended December 2008 story, “ The Gifts I Bring To Thee ,” is done. The first draft, that is. Sorry, need to spit on it a bit more and polish it up for you before I set it loose into the world! And that (I promise) will be in a week or two.

December 2008 News

Incredible news! Dusk and Summer will be featured on the website of the Lustgarten Foundation. I'm hoping this will be instrumental not only in the exposure of my book, but promotional and marketing efforts as well. I hope Dusk and Summer will make a unique difference in some lives.

The release of Dusk and Summer draws nearer. I'm looking at anywhere between January 15 and January 31 of 2009 right now. I'm waiting until its release before planning related events.

Finally, two new releases for my website!

In honor of the holiday season, I present to you my short story “ Cool Tidings .”

Also, in my poems link please find, “ Losing You .”

I pushed my intended December story, “ The Gifts I Bring To Thee ,” back a little. I found that it was growing stale & needed to get away from it for a spell. I'm glad I did. Sometimes stories just need to air out a little before you finish them.

Starting this month, I'll be handling all news updates on my own. I think a more personal level is best to keep you connected and involved on what I'm doing (and sometimes not doing). So please, I'd love to hear from you! Start some message boards sounding off on my stories or anything else you want, drop some mail to me and tell a friend or two about my site and work. It's my goal to keep this as entertaining and interactive as possible. Happy holidays!!

Due to the health of his dog, the release of his short story “The Gifts I Bring To Thee” has been delayed. But at this time, AJ seems to be doing better, and Joe hopes to have the story completed and posted in December at the latest.

October 2008 News

Dusk and Summer is now in its final stage of production. Release soon to come. Also, Joe is hopeful the book may be featured on the website of the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.

New short story definitely coming to website! Readers anxiously awaiting “The Gifts I Bring To Thee.”

This just in… the rumors are true. It seems that Joe is drafting a horror short story inspired by none other than his daughter, Athena. Sick bastard!

Also, unconfirmed sources report hearing whispers from Joe's dungeon that he is brainstorming ideas for his newest novel, something along the lines of the living dead. These same sources also report glimpsing an unfinished manuscript based on the existence of fallen angels. Coincidently, these sources have not been heard from since.

The Idea Behind  FLOWERS FOR EVELENE
(taken from Amazon.com sale page)

A lot of people have asked me how I came up with the wild idea for Flowers for Evelene.  Without spoiling anything in the book, Flowers for Evelene initially began as a ghost story.  It's actually how I started writing it.  I had the image of my Evelene character as a beautiful spirit, long white Victorian gown flowing behind her as she roamed some mansion's halls.  But sometimes a story takes a life of its own, and that's what happened here.

The more I wrote, the darker the tale grew, until I realized... uh-oh, I took a wrong turn somewhere!  But I just went with it, and I'm glad I did.  I think I churned out a pretty fresh concept for a debut horror novel, and hey, while there will always be critics, I had a blast writing it & for me, that's where it starts and ends.

The REAL challenge was making my main character Doug not only believable as a sex addict, but most importantly, sympathetic to the reader.  I did a lot of research into sexual addictions, mainly concerning what could trigger such a thing, spoke with a few therapists, and end result, I would like to think I pulled it off.
I personally rooted for Doug the whole way through, but I must admit... there is a part of me that took fiendish delight in the terrors Evelene subjects him to.  And you never know... she may be sticking around for awhile...
